Saddle width refers to the gullet width at the front of the saddle tree, and it is one of the most important elements of saddle fit. The width needs to match the shape of your horse's withers and shoulders so the saddle sits clear of the spine, distributes pressure evenly and gives the horse freedom of movement.

UK saddle widths are usually grouped from Narrow (N), through Narrow/Medium (N/M), Medium (M), Medium/Wide (M/W), Wide (W) and Extra Wide (X/W), up to XX, XXX and XXXX Wide. Adjustable Width saddles use a changeable gullet plate that can be swapped as the horse changes shape.
